Rev. Bro. Jyotilal Mankottil MMB (44), member of Assisi Province, Bhopal, was called to eternal rest on October 12, 2014. For the last eleven years he was undergoing treatment. On the night October 12 he breathed his last responding to call of the Risen Lord for his eternal abode at Mission Home, Mariapuram, Thrissur, Kerala. He was serving their as asst. novice master for the last three years.
Bro. Jyotilal Mankottil hails from Vazhakkundam parish of Thalassery Archdiocese. He was born on May 06, 1970 to parents, Kurian and Chinnamma. After the high school education he joined the MMB Congregation on June 05, 1986. He pronounced his first vows on May 13, 1990. Then he moved to Bhopal for scholasticate studies. He completed his degree from Bhopal School of Social Sciences, and MSW from Indore. Bro. Jyotilal achieved diploma in spirituality form Adyadmik Vidyapeedam Bangalore. He did his B. Ed from Mahajubilee educational College, Cheruthuruthi, Thrissur.
Bro. Jyotilal was the first appointed principal of St. Francis School Tanakpur, Uttaragarh and the vice principal of St. Josephs School Ganj Basoda, M.P. His teaching methodology was so simple and understandable for all. Hence students, colleagues and others always valued his contribution. In him they fund a brother, a friend, a guide and philosopher. They cherished his presence. He also served as the manager of Madonna Boys' Home Ganj Basoda, M.P. and as the warden of MMB Vidyabhavan, Thrissur. He also rendered his service as a teacher in Vidya pre-primary teachers training institute, Kuriachira, Thrissur. Considering his experience in the field of boardings & hostels Kerala government orphanage control board approved his name as a trainer for their institutional staff. Bro. Jyotilal was served as candidates master in Navajyoti Gurukul, Bhopal and as asst. superior in Assisi Villa, Tanakpur and MMB Vidyabhavan, Thrissur. He rendered his service as a member in Navajyoti, Bhopal; Alverniya Ashram, Peechi; MMB Generalate, Thrissur; and Assisi Mission House, Pazhayanoor.
He was a man of prayer and hard work. It was so graceful for the house and the visitors to see him always in doing something. His respect and love for others was exemplary. Even when he was sick he tried to do all his works by himself. He was faithful in his duties and his love for others was outstanding. He never complained about anything. His silent service touched the hearts of all and was a role model for the motto of MMB: “Evangelization through humble service.”
The funeral ceremony started at 05.00 pm on Monday 13th October at Mission Home, Mariapuram. The requiem mass was celebrated and eulogy was delivered by Msgr. George Edakulathur, Vicar General of
Thrissur archdiocese. “Bro. Jyotilal was an exemplary religious, and a zealous missionary and a person who took all his sufferings in a noble way” acclaimed Msgr. George Edakulathur in his tribute. Besides priests, religious, relatives and friends, a good number of faithful also participated in the funeral rites. Mar Andrews Thazhath, Archbishop of Thrissur paid homage to Bro. Jyotilal Mankottil.
